First elected in 1999, Scott Galvin is the longest-serving Councilman in North Miami’s ninety year history. He is also one of the longest-serving openly LGBTQ lawmakers in the state of Florida. Professionally, Galvin is the Executive Director of Safe Schools South Florida, a non-profit focusing on providing safe space for LGBTQ youth. He also serves on the board of directors for the AIDS Healthcare Foundation, a global nonprofit organization providing cutting-edge medicine and advocacy to more than 2 million people across the globe.  In 2022, the city named the ‘Scott Galvin Community Center’ in honor of his decades of work.

ABOUT THE ‘SCOTT GALVIN COMMUNITY CENTER’

The Scott Galvin Community Center is located just west of Biscayne Boulevard at 1600 NE 126 Street.  This thirty-five thousand square foot facility is North Miami’s newest and largest recreation center. A state-of-the-art fitness center features free weights, machines, and aerobic equipment. 

Come take a class in our aerobics room or get in line to see NBA stars like Bam Adebayo, Donovan Mitchell, and Collin Sexton bring their game to the Galvin Center basketball court.

With space to host public and private events, the Galvin Center offers our community a place to come together. Upstairs, the Galvin Center is home to our Parks and Recreation Department.
