The City Clerk’s Office has received notification from the Miami-Dade Supervisor of Elections that a recount will be necessary for the mayoral and District 4 seats. The close totals between the second-and-third-place finishers have triggered a recount under Florida Law.
The recounts are scheduled to commence on Friday, November 8, 2024 at 3:00 pm.
In both cases, the recounts will determine who makes the December 3rd run-off as the second-place finisher. For mayor, Alix Desulme is in the lead with 7,197 votes. Hector Medina is currently in second place with 4,421 votes and Daphne Campbell has 4,389. Pierre Frantz Charles is out front in District 4 with 2,773 ballots. Trailing him are Daniel Calixte at 1,033 and Nacivre Charles with 1,020.
District 1 is also headed to run-off between Kevin Burns and Vanessa Pierre. But no recount is necessary in that district.
Because of the run-offs, I will remain the District 1 councilperson until Tuesday, December 10th when my successor is sworn in. I’ll have been in office 25 years and 7 months. But who’s counting? LOL
