Wildcat Center to North Miami?

Exciting news! The city is in active discussions with PMG about ways to obtain the Wildcat Center formerly owned by Johnson & Wales. It would be a fantastic location to host community meetings, youth programs, and more. When JWU closed, its entire 25 acre campus was bought by PMG. In turn, PMG re-sold it to new owners like Doral College and other developers. But the one site unsold is the Wildcat Center, a state-of-the-art athletic and community facility. For months, I’ve pushed city administration to explore making it North Miami property. It would be a much-needed location for sports, after school programs, meeting space, and so much more. There is nothing else like it in the area. On Sept. 28, 2021, the city council gave direction to staff to further look at options. I can’t thank them enough for sharing the vision of what Wildcat could mean to our city. Of course, if a potential agreement is arrived at, the full details would have to be publicly discussed and voted on by our council. It’s possible that city facilities in the area might soon take a quantum leap forward!
