North Miami Resiliency & Environment

North Miami aims to inspire all to be good custodians of where they live and to preserve, protect, and promote the sustainability of our ecosystem and livelihoods.  Toward that end, we have a Sustainability Administrator who works to oversee our environmental efforts and inform the community about how they can help.  Her name is Christina Viala and you can call her at 305-893-6511 Ext. 19008.  Her email is pviala@northmiamifl.gov.

Ms. Viala puts together a fantastic e-newsletter which you should subscribe to.   The Fall issue has stories on Live Oaks & Gumbo Limbo trees.  And she takes a deep dive, no pun intended, into the topic of Flooding and climate change.  You’ll definitely want to read her story, “Cigarette Litter Prevention.”  Cigarette butts are the most littered item in America, constituting a staggering 20 percent of all items and a whopping 88% of litter pieces measuring 4 inches or smaller, according to the Keep America Beautiful (KAB)® 2020 National Litter Study.

On November 13 and 14, 2023, she’s also hosting two Resilient Design community workshops.  Register for them here:  https://ResilientDesignCommunityWorkshops.eventbrite.com
